Your bank

Ressura connects to your business bank through Plaid, a service that thousands of banks and finance apps use to share account data safely. You log in to your bank in Plaid's own window, never on a Ressura page, and Ressura never sees your bank password. Ressura only reads; it never moves money.

Your bank is not offered everywhere yet. Where it isn't, choosing Connect on Your bank says Ressura doesn't connect to it yet, and I need this counts toward bringing it to you.

Before you start

You need to be an admin of your company in Ressura, because only an admin can connect a system. At your bank you need the online banking login that sees the business accounts you want to bring in. It takes about two minutes.

In Plaid, log in and choose your accounts

There is no key or secret to copy. Plaid's window opens over the Ressura page when you connect, as the next section describes:

  1. Find your bank in Plaid's list. Plaid offers banks in the United States.
  2. Log in with your usual online banking details, and answer your bank's security check if it asks for one.
  3. Plaid lists the accounts that login can see, each one ticked. Untick any account Ressura should not bring in, such as a personal account that shares the login, then continue.

Plaid asks your bank for up to a year of history for the accounts you choose.

In Ressura, connect it

  1. Open Connections from the left navigation and choose Connect on Your bank.
  2. Choose Connect your bank. Plaid's window opens; log in and choose your accounts, as above.
  3. Back on the page, it says Connected to your bank, and lists the bank under Connected banks with its status and each account you chose.
  4. Under the bank, Backfill window shows twelve months. Shorten it if you only need recent activity, then choose Confirm backfill window. Nothing is read from your bank until you confirm, and the window can't change afterwards.

A connection is named for your bank, such as Chase, or Chase ••4821 when it brings in a single account; ••4821 is the account number's last four digits. To connect a second login at the same bank, or a different bank, choose Connect your bank again. Each login is its own connection.

What it brings in and what it costs

Each account you choose becomes a Bank Account in the Directory, under Accounts, with its name, the last four digits of its number, its type (checking or savings, for example), your bank's name and its current balance. Entries in the Directory are free.

Once you confirm the backfill window, your bank's transactions in those accounts arrive in the Data Room as Bank lines, newest first, each saying it was connected from your bank's connection. Only posted transactions come in: a transaction still pending at your bank arrives once it posts. Transactions from before the window are left out.

After that the connection syncs once a day, bringing in new transactions and anything your bank changed, and keeps each Bank Account's balance current. An admin can choose Sync now under the bank to sync straight away. A transaction your bank changes later updates its Bank line, and is never charged again.

Sometimes your bank withdraws a transaction it has already posted. Ressura keeps its Bank line in the Data Room and marks it Removed by the bank, on the list and on the line's own page. No check reads it, and neither does Ask Ressura. Credits it was charged are not refunded. A withdrawn transaction that was still waiting for credits is never added.

Bank lines are rows, metered at 10 rows per credit, pooled across every Connection. While Cash & Bank has no checks live, they are held: stored and readable, and charged nothing until a check reads them; the page says Held for Cash & Bank when they arrive. If your credits run out, the page says how many bank lines are waiting for credits, and they are added when you top up.

Members of your company see the connected banks and their accounts; only an admin can connect one.

When it needs attention

If Plaid's window closes before your bank connects, nothing is saved; the page says why when Plaid gives a reason. Choose Connect your bank to try again.

If a sync fails, the connection shows Needs attention with what went wrong, and nothing from that sync is lost: the next sync reads the same transactions again. Choose Retry sync once your bank recovers.

Connections and what they bring in covers every Connection in one place, and The Directory shows where your Bank Accounts are listed. Cash & Bank is the Module that checks your bank accounts.
