Xero

Ressura connects to Xero through an app you create in your own Xero account. You copy two values from that app into Ressura, then sign in to Xero once to allow access. Ressura reads your accounts and never writes to them.

Before you start

You need to be an admin of your company in Ressura, because only an admin can connect a system. You also need a Xero login that can open Xero's developer site for your organisation. The whole thing takes about ten minutes.

In Xero, create the app and copy its keys

  1. Sign in at developer.xero.com with your usual Xero login and open My Apps.
  2. Choose New app. Give it a name your team will recognise, such as "Ressura", and choose the Web app option.
  3. For the company or application URL, enter your company's website.
  4. For Redirect URI, enter https://ressura.com/api/xero/callback exactly. Xero sends you back to this address after you allow access, so a typo here stops the connection.
  5. Agree to Xero's terms and choose Create app.
  6. Open the app's Configuration tab. Copy the Client id, a string of 32 letters and digits.
  7. Choose Generate a secret and copy the Client secret the moment it appears. Xero shows it once; if you lose it, generate a new one and use that instead.

The client secret is a password. Paste it only into Ressura, and never send it by email or chat.

In Ressura, connect it

  1. Open Connections from the Data Room and choose Xero, then Connect.
  2. The page Connect your Xero app asks for the Client ID and the Client secret. Paste both.
  3. Choose Authorize and check access. Ressura sends you to Xero, where you sign in, pick the organisation to connect and allow access.
  4. Back in Ressura, the page says Customer access confirmed for your company and shows the Client ID with Test connection and Edit beside it.

Each Xero organisation you connect then appears on the Xero page with its name and its status: Connected, Needs attention or Disconnected.

What it brings in and what it costs

Before its first sync, the Connection shows its Backfill window. Ressura imports up to twelve months of history, newest first. Shorten the Months of history if you only need recent activity, then choose Confirm backfill window.

Xero brings in your invoices, credit notes, contacts, bank transactions and journals as rows. Rows are metered at 10 rows per credit, pooled across every Xero organisation you connect. The page shows how many rows and Records have arrived.

Xero also lists the PDFs attached to your rows that are not yet in the Data Room, under Available Xero PDFs. Choose Add to Data Room on one and it costs 10 credits, the same as a document you upload.

After the backfill, the Connection syncs about once a day, and you can choose Sync now at any time. If your credits run out, the sync pauses before the next debit, shows how many rows are waiting, and offers Subscribe to resume. Nothing waiting is lost.

When it needs attention

A Connection with a problem you can put right shows Needs attention and says what to do. Choose Retry sync once you have.

If Xero has withdrawn access, because the app's secret changed or someone removed Ressura in Xero, choose Edit on the Xero page, enter the client id and a current secret again, and choose Authorize and check access. Test connection confirms the link still works whenever you like.

Disconnect stops the sync. The rows and documents already in the Data Room stay, with Xero recorded as their origin. Reconnect picks up where it left off.

Connections and what they bring in covers every Connection in one place, and The Data Room shows where the rows and documents land. Procure-to-Pay checks the supplier invoices Xero brings in, and Order-to-Cash checks the invoices you issued.
